I originate from Lancashire, England, born in Blackburn but lived most of my life in Burnley and surrounding areas, I have worked in the NHS as a Nurse, Midwife and Health Visitor for more than 20 years and in my late 40's decided to follow my dream of becoming an artist. We moved to Longridge in the Ribble Valley, I completed a foundation course in Fine Art at the University of Central Lancashire and began creating art on a daily basis from my kitchen.
We moved full time to Anglesey, Wales, in August 2016 to our home in Beaumaris, where I was fortunate enough to be able to set up a studio and began creating art full time. I have formed many great friendships with other artists and developed my range of creativity through collaboration, joining art groups, taking workshops and being involved in art exhibitions.
I like to use a variety of techniques, from lino printing to digital art, however, my preferred mediums are oil, acrylic and watercolour paints. I try to convey mood and emotion in my paintings, using a varied colour palette and different techniques. I paint a variety of subjects including still life, animals and landscape.
During the lockdown in 2020 I developed a love for sewing and created both functional items and, inspired by the needlework of Kaffe Fassett, pieces of embroidery and tapestry, drawing my own designs onto the fabric.

I am an artist with a soulful approach to the creative process.
I love intuitively painting large and small abstract pieces in acrylic and resin on canvas and wood panels, enjoying the opportunity to express my feelings through colour and movement exploring our inner and outer landscapes. Each piece evolving and expanding with its own creative energy.
I also create spirit animal guides using a variety of different techniques and mediums such as ink, watercolour and mix media.
I have a profound connection with colour and its many healing properties, and a deep love and curiosity for the beauty in nature and often my work resembles this in some form.
Before choosing to become a full time artist 8 years ago I worked as a fashion designer for 20 years. Although I enjoyed the journey this took me on my heart grew tired and called for a change. I knew that this change involved art making and wanting to help inspire creativity, encourage and heal with the art process.
As well as being an artist I also facilitate regular Children and Adult art workshops for mental wellbeing, working with an amazing charity that believe that creativity has a transformative impact on mental health and recovery. Each session we create with different techniques such as Watercolour, print making, clay, collage, bookmaking and much more.
I truly feel art and colour have the power to awaken, nurture, empower and heal.

My work is inspired by my two biggest passions, painting and people. It has been described as having a “calm intensity”. This depth of feeling is derived from my endeavour to make sense of the fragility of the human psyche and I strive to capture the undeniable essence of a person.
There is a strong connection between storytelling and portraiture and each of my portraits, as with every person, has a story to tell. Following the tradition of surface/textile design I create patterns and images to complement the portrait, drawing my inspiration from the shapes, colours, and patterns I find in nature.
